A che punto è la mia 'Summer Reading Challenge' ?

Mi sembra che queste settimane di vacanza siano passate in un fulmine e tra poco ricomincerà la scuola e con lei ricominceranno i miei impegni di insegnante...perciò avrò meno tempo per leggere. Purtroppo in queste settimane non sono riuscita a dedicarmi alla lettura come avrei voluto ( chissà perchè ?) e la mia Summer Reading Challenge, che già sembrava un'impresa abiziosa fin dall'inizio (40 romanzi in una stagione!) rischia di diventare una sconfitta su tutta la linea, anche se per fortuna senza conseguenze...

Il fatto è che quest'anno la maggior parte dei libri che ho scelto di leggere non mi hanno entusiasmato e quindi la spinta a finire il romanzo era a scarto molto ridotto. Fortunatamente qualche bella storia, nel gruppo, è capitata, ma nel complesso devo dire che il livello dei pochi che alla fine mi è riuscito di leggere è discreto ma non entusiasmante.

Comunque la stagione non è ancora finita e le mie letture continuano...

Nel frattempo ho deciso di apportare alcune modifiche all'elenco iniziale dei romanzi da leggere (fortunatamente le regole di questa sfida le faccio io! ), perchè alcuni romanzi che avevo messo in elenco non li ho ancora acquistati o perchè ne ho comprati e letti altri che alla fine mi hanno ispirato di più. Il numero però rimane lo stesso... se no che sfida è ?! ).

Ecco i romanzi che ho letto finora:

YOUR SCANDALOUS WAYS - Loretta Chase (regency)

Mio Giudizio : La Hoyt anche questa volta non ha deluso le aspettative. Primo romanzo della nuova serie Four Soldiers. Bello! 4,5 *

Mio Giudizio : Molto suspense, a volte anche troppo, però è sensuale e coinvolgente. Primo romanzo della serie Crossfire . Non male! 4*


TRACELESS - Debra Webb (romantic suspense)

Mio Giudizio : Suspense e romance mischiati a dovere forse con una maggiore abbondanza del suspense. Un'autrice comunque per me da tenere d'occhio . Interessante. 4 *


BLIND CURVE - Annie Solomon ( romantic suspense)

Mio Giudizio : Una trama un po' diversa dal solito, dove una volta tanto è la più debole a doversi prendere cura del più forte. Un'autrice che non conoscevo e che adesso seguirò. Interessante. 4,5*

COMING UNDONE (Attrazione Bollente) - Susan Andersen (contemporaneo)

It's supposed to be the biggest summer of Priscilla Jayne Morgan's life. She's on the brink of country music superstardom, yet she had to fire her crooked-manager Mama, and the tabloids are having a field day. Mio Giudizio : L'autrice si concentra essenzialmente sui dialoghi che a tratti sono davvero spassosi. Pensavo, vista la trama, che la storia mi coinvolgesse di più. In compenso ho scoperto di aver letto qualche tempo fa l'antefatto a questo romanzo, Hot and Bothered, che grazie a questo mi è venuta voglia di rileggere. Il libro è appena uscito anche nella traduzione italiana, titolo: Attrazione Bollente . Nonostante il titolo italiano, però, la parte sensuale della storia non mi ha entusiasmato, meglio quella brillante. Non male. 4*

SNOWBOUND - Janice K. Johnson (contemporaneo)

Mio Giudizio : La trama mi attirava molto ma il romanzo non mantiene del tutto quello che la trama sembrava promettere...forse il formato breve lo penalizza un po', soprattutto per quanto riguarda lo sviluppo dei personaggi. In ogni caso non tutte la pensano come me visto che questo romanzo ha vinto il premio RITA 2008 per la categoria contemporanei brevi. E' carino, ma il premio non glielo avrei dato! 3,5 *

MOVING TARGET - Cheyenne McCray (romantic suspense)

Mio Giudizio : Uno dei pregi di questo romanzo è avere una copertina con una grafica molto accattivante che cattura lo sguardo, e ammetto che è una delle cose che mi hanno fatto decidere di leggerlo. La trama non è male, con un buon livello di suspense, anche se i cattivi sono un po' troppo stereotipati e certe situazioni da film d'azione holliwoodiano. Peccato che l'autrice, specializzata fra l'altro in romanzi rosa erotici, calchi un po' troppo la mano faccia della trama solo quello che succede fra un amplesso (descritto nei minimi grafici particolari dove non c'è spazio per gli eufemismi!) e l'altro dei protagonisti. Lo salvano alcune situazioni e dialoghi (amorosi) niente male... ma nel complesso non mi ha fatto venire voglia di leggere altro di questa autrice. Così così. 3,5 *

TALL TALES AND WEDDING VEIL - Jane Graves (contemporaneo)

Mio Giudizio : Anche nel caso di questo romanzo è stata la trama ad intrigarmi perchè sembrava promettere sano divertimento. In effetti un po' di divertimento c'è, ma il romanzo è molto meno di quello che promette . Soprattutto sul versante romantico.Io fra questi due tutta sta passione non l'ho proprio vista. ecos'è che li ha fatti innamorare? Tutto un po' scontato , anche se alcune parti sono comunque spassose e si arriva alla fine senza fatica. Lettura simpatica ma niente di più. 3,5 *

THE IDEAL WIFE di Mary Balogh ( regency)

When Miles Ripley, Earl of Severn, learns that his mother and sisters are about to descend upon him in London, he is in despair. For they have a bride picked out for him and are busy with wedding plans-and he does not know how to say no. They love him, and the trouble is that he loves them too. He vows to his best friend that if only someone would set before him the plainest, dullest, most ordinary female, he would marry her without delay.He is not really serious, of course, but the very next day a woman who resembles the one he described to an uncanny degree appears in the visitors' salon of his home, claiming a distant kinship and begging for a reference so that she can seek employment. Suddenly Miles becomes very serious indeed and offers her something quite different from what she expects.The only problem is that Abigail Gardiner is not at all the woman Miles judges her to be during that first encounter. Because she has just been dismissed from her employment for insubordination and is feeling rather desperate, she has come to the earl-a very distant relation indeed-with a deliberately plain, demure mien.The drastic mistake Miles has made does not bode well for the future!

Mio Giudizio : Si tratta della riedizione di un romanzo del 1991 e a quanto pare la Balogh non ha toccato nemmeno una virgola...secondo me la cosa è voluta perchè se l'avesse riletto anche solo una volta si sarebbe talmente vergognata di vederlo uscire di nuovo che l'avrebbe scritto da capo! E' un romanzo sciocco con protagonisti sciocchi, che solo lo stile già allora buono della Balogh riesce a salvare dal baratro. Ho letto delle buone recensioni su questo romanzo in rete...mi chiedo se abbiano letto lo stesso libro! Fortunatamente la Balogh ci ha abituate a ben altre storie! Trama che rientra nella tradizione del genere e che sarebbe carina se i protagonisti non fossero sciocchi oltre misura, a cominciare da quella pappamolla del duca di Severn, che sarà anche bellissimo ma ha il sex-appeal di un carciofo! Sulla protagonista insulsa,logorroica e lontana da ogni tentazione ( riesce a tentare solo il carciofone Severn!) calo un velo pietoso. Un errore di percorso! 3* (e solo grazie allo stile Balogh!)

THE HUNTER - Gennita Low (romantic suspense)

Hawk McMillan, SEAL commander, is on a lone mission. To get close to Dragan Dilaver, a Kosovo kingpin involved in drugs and arms–trafficking, Hawk helped him escape from Asia and return to his former country of Yugoslavia. Now Hawk has to discover where certain weapons have been dropped for Dilaver over the diverse regions of Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania –– not an easy task for someone unfamiliar with the territory. In order for the operation to succeed, he needs a tracker and the only available person is CIA contact agent Amber Hutchens. Beautiful and smart, Amber has made a life for herself in Velesta, Macedonia and she is more than capable of assisting Hawk in finding the cache of hidden weapons. Despite the danger of exposure and torture, they risk everything in their mission to strike down Dilaver and his ruthless gang –– even their love.

Mio Giudizio : La trama è sapientemente costruita ma per me l'argomento ( tratta di schiave sessuali nell'ex Jugoslavia) è un po' ostico da mandar giù. L'intrigo ha decisamente il sopravvento sul romance, ma quando il romance c'è è molto hot e molto piacevole, con due protagonisti ben assortiti. Sono stata contenta di aver superato le difficoltà iniziali e di essere arrivata alla fine perchè è un romanzo ben costruito, che piacerà soprattutto a chi è patita di thriller e azione. L'eroe è decisamente ...to die for! Interessante. 4 *

Chissà se da qui alla fine dell'estate riuscirò nell'impresa??? Forse no, ma senz'altro farò una bella indigestione romance !!!
